Most Promising New Startup Award Winners. Was it worth it?25/04/2017
For the third year running Grindeys are sponsoring the ‘Most Promising New Startup’ category in the Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. Susan Lewis, Head of Business Services at Grindeys Solicitors, explains why.
“The nominations in this category were a genuine pleasure to review. The strength and diversity of the nominations is a fantastic reminder that Staffordshire is full of talent and innovative thinking, and that there is a great commercial infrastructure to support the rapid growth of a fledging business.”
A Great Promotional Opportunity
The 2017 Awards launched at the beginning of this month and we are keen to encourage anyone who is eligible to nominate for this category. We think it is a fantastic opportunity for a fledgling company to gain some PR and promotional opportunities. All finalists receive the benefits of press coverage in the run up to the final event and even for those that don’t go on to win the award, to be recognized as a finalist brings with it a great deal of credibility for a new business.
Last Years Winners, was it worth it?
Last year the number of quality of entries was so good that the Award organisers took the unusual decision to announce two winners - DIMEC and Opun.
John Cushing, Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Opun (opun.co.uk) commented on their award success, “Winning the Most Promising New Start Up category in 2016 proved to be a watershed moment in the business’ life. We have since doubled our sales, and are on course to double again, won a further five national awards, increased our operating area and started to receive attention from international brands wishing to partner with us. Would I recommend entering – absolutely!”
Chris Turner, Co-founder and CXO of DIMEC (dimec.co.uk) said, “We are proud of our business and what we have achieved and felt we had a really good chance of winning this category. We thought it would be a good opportunity to showcase our services and we were right. Winning gave us some great PR opportunities and we have made new and relevant contacts which have led to more people ordering their prescriptions through our app.” Chris went on to say, “We would encourage other new businesses to enter the Awards as the exposure, plus the networking and other opportunities that can arise as a result are extremely valuable.”
