Two local charities receive a share of £7,000 fundraising pot

Grindeys Community is the charity initiative of Grindeys Solicitors. Each year the staff at Grindeys nominate two local charities and then commit to raise money and support the charities in any way they can. For the last charity year (1st April 16 – 31st March 17) they hosted the ‘Great Grindeys Bake Off, organised Christmas Shopping trips and supported the local theatrical community with the sale of theatre tickets all to raise funds for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice (DMH)  and the Midlands Air Ambulance.  And, through the DMH ‘Bag It Bring It’ scheme, they have also donated a total of 70 bags full of unwanted items to sell in the DMH retail shops across the city.  The DMH estimate that each bag will raise approximately £30 when the contents are sold in their shops.

The Grindeys Community committee are now busy planning the fundraising events* for the forthcoming charity year and this year they will once again be supporting the DMH and one other local charity,  Fresh Hair Salon Wigs and Wellbeing.

Everyday of the year the Douglas Macmillan Hospice provides all hospice services free of charge to over 3000 adults with life limiting illnesses in the North Staffordshire area and also provides supportive care for their families and carers. They provide an invaluable service to our local community which is why Grindeys have supported them every year since the Community began.

Fresh Hair, Wigs and Wellbeing, who are located at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, offer a bespoke, one-to-one wig fitting service for those that have lost their hair due to illness or the associated treatment. Losing hair is a devastating result of many illnesses and this charity offers both support and cosmetic solutions to help lessen the emotional trauma.

It is six years since Grindeys Community was formed and in that time it has raised over £30,000 for local charities and a total of 500 bags have also been donated to the DMH with an approximate value of £15,000.

Janine Webb, a Grindeys Community Committee member commented, “There is a huge appetite at Grindeys to engage with the community and support our local charities.  Each year the fundraising ideas get more adventurous and creative and with the plans we have for 2017/18 we hope to smash last year’s total.”
