The Alice Charity Christmas Campaign - Grindeys show their festive spirit

Latest statistics state that 17% of all children living in Newcastle-Under-Lyme and 25% of all children living in Stoke-On-Trent reside in low income families.

This means that for some people in our local area Christmas is a time of poverty and despair rather than fun and festivities.

The Alice Charity ( ) was formed to help improve the lives of local, low income families.

For Christmas they have been campaigning for items to include in Christmas gift boxes which will be distributed to low income families who can’t afford gifts and a festive feast.

The Committee of Grindeys Community ( ) wanted to help and appealed to the staff at Grindeys to add one or two items to their Christmas shopping list to donate. The response has been overwhelming and heart warming.

Hundreds of items have been donated. Adult gift items including posh toiletry sets for both men and women, jewellery, socks, hats and scarves. For the children people donated toys, clothes, sweets and activity sets. As requested by the charity there were also several donations of food, drink and every day toiletry items such as shower gel and deodorant. It took hours to carefully prepare and wrap before presenting the pile of presents to the charity.

Well done team Grindeys! We hope these gifts bring a little festive cheer to local families less fortunate than ourselves.
